Thrice, a four-piece band from Irvine, California, began playing together in 1999. From
the beginning, Dustin Kensrue (Vocals, Guitar) Teppei Teranishi (Guitar, Vocals) Ed Breckenridge (Bass, Vocals), and Riley
Breckenridge (Drums) managed to wrangle a strong grassroots fan base that continues to grow. After putting out a self-released
EP, First Impressions, three months after forming, they began playing throughout Southern California and continued
writing new material. A year later, they recorded their first full-length album, which was originally released on Green Flag
Records. The album, Identity Crisis, was re-released in March of 2001 on Sub City Records, an offshoot of Hopeless
Records that donates 5% of all retail sales to charity. Thrice chose to benefit Crittenton Services for Children and Families
in Fullerton, CA, with the proceeds from the record. Identity Crisis was welcomed with rave reviews from fans, websites
and fanzines, and before long, the band found themselves touring the U.S. from coast to coast with the likes of AFI, Hot Water
Music, Cave In and The Alkaline Trio. At home, their hard work also started to pay off, and they began to headline and sell
out local venues (including the Anaheim House of Blues). Amidst a busy touring schedule, the band found time to record a second
album, The Illusion of Safety, for Sub City in July of 2001 with well-known producer Brian McTernan (Hot Water Music,
Cave In).
Thrice hits the listener's mind and body, offering a steady stream of heartfelt and devastating, yet melodically
soulful music. Thrice approaches music in a way that challenges the listener to keep thinking and learning just so they can
keep up. The band recently recorded their Island Records debut, The Artist In The Ambulance, helmed by producer Brian
McTernan (Snapcase, Converge) at Salad Days studios in Washington DC. |
